For the first time ever, the Twin Tiers Honor Flight to Washington D.C. was entirely composed of women, and the Binghamton City School District’s own Karen Yeager had the opportunity to be a part of that history. Yeager, an Army veteran and a longtime clerical professional with the district, called the Honor Flight Mission 14 trip to Washington D.C. in early November “a total trip of a lifetime”.
Together, the group of veterans saw sites including the Vietnam Wall, Korean Memorial, Iwo Jima Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Navy Memorial, Air Force memorial, the Womens Military Service Memorial, and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier with a special all-female guard.
The BCSD was well represented on the flight: Yeager’s guest for the trip was her friend Andrea Booth, a Calvin Coolidge employee. Jesilyn Starzec, a MacArthur Elementary employee, was also on the trip, serving as the guardian for her mother, a Vietnam veteran. #BPatriotProud

Coolidge kindergarteners hosted a Friendsgiving celebration Friday. Kindergarteners performed festive poems and songs for their friends and teachers. Children tried some traditional Thanksgiving foods, and also learned that it's not what's on the table that matters, but rather, it's who's AT the table that counts. Kindergarteners enjoyed the spirit of Thanksgiving with friends, food, and fun! #BPatriotProud

Is journalism a family business for the Ehmkes? It is this week, anyway! Student Olivia Ehmke, daughter of WIVT’s Jim Ehmke, plays a news reporter in “Radium Girls”, and got to try her hand at interviewing her cast mates. Catch the final performance Saturday evening at BHS!

The Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) club volunteered at the American Legion on Robinson St. yesterday. The FBLA, BHS student government and the Visions interns all volunteered. The kids talked with the veterans, heard moving stories and the vets were so wonderful to the kids too. Our Visions interns especially wanted to honor Sam Harrington, an Air Force vet and our Visions branch representative! #BPatriotProud

Juniors and seniors in our Project Lead the Way program took a trip to BAE Systems, Inc., a world leader in hybrid electric buses, tour the facilities and learn more about engineering careers. Student flew simulators and toured their Electromagnetic Interference lab. We were also impressed by their printed circuit board assembly tour, and the custom machines they designed and use for welding batteries. A panel of engineers gave advice to our students, who learned a great deal and about internships, selecting a college and future career opportunities. We are thankful for the time they spent with our budding engineers! #BPatriotProud
