The purpose of the Equity and Diversity Committee is to help the Binghamton City School District achieve its goal to improve diversity awareness and ensure equity across all domains of the organization. Members include administrators, board members, directors, community members, teachers, students and parents.
Define and create a district equity report card, which will serve as a metric for establishing goals and evaluating progress toward goal achievement;
Identify specific equity, diversity and intersectionality goals to address within the district strategic plan;
Develop an annual action plan to carryout committee recommendations and responsibilities;
Disseminate information about relevant professional development training around diversity, equity, and inclusion for students, staff, faculty, and administration;
Assist committee members with inclusive conduct and competencies behaviors by providing additional resources and training opportunities;
Seek regular feedback from students, staff, faculty, and administration to inform decision making and understand opportunities for improvement as it relates to equity and diversity;
Assess strategy for staff hiring and on-boarding through an equity lens;
Support the review and analysis of the BCSD Code of Conduct for equity, diversity and intersectionality biases and make recommendations for modifications, deletions and or insertions;
Support the review of Board Policy (Section 7) for equity, diversity and intersectionality biases and make recommendations for modifications, deletions and or insertions;
Assist other District committees in incorporating equity and diversity into their work as requested; and,
Review and assess the effectiveness of the committee and this charter biannually.
