June 8, 2023 As we continue to monitor wildfire smoke entering the area from Canada, we’d like to confirm that prom remains scheduled to take place on Friday, June 9 at the Holiday Inn in downtown Binghamton. As is tradition, pre-prom photos will take place at Recreation Park on Friday, June 9, however, please be reminded that this is not a district-sponsored event. Individuals should use their discretion when deciding whether or not to participate. We recommend that participants wear masks when not being photographed. We wish our seniors a safe and enjoyable prom!

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) monitors air quality throughout the state. NYSDEC is predicting a downgrade in its air quality alert from “Unhealthy” to “Moderate” for tomorrow Friday June 9. Moderate means, “[a]ir quality is acceptable, however, for some pollutants there may be a moderate health concern for a very small number of people who are unusually sensitive to air pollution.” Unless the NYDEC prediction changes overnight, the Binghamton City School District will resume outdoor activities and field trips on Friday, June 9. We will continue to monitor this weather event and keep you informed of any impact to our schools. As a reminder, if a weather event prevents your student from attending school, please report their absence (1-844-282-8298) as being a result of a weather event and we will record it as an excused absence. Thank you, and please stay safe.
