The Binghamton City School District is getting a hefty chunk of change to completely renovate one of the most public-facing and historic parts of Binghamton High School.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced the district would receive $500,000 in grant money to go toward restoring the Main Street entrance of the high school. The grant is part of a larger, $24.3 million project for 56 municipalities and non-profit organization projects.
The entrance was built in 1916, and renovating it will provide greater access to the Helen Foley Theatre. As part of the project, the steps will be restored from the sidewalk to the entrance, as well as other components of the original entrance.
