In what has become an annual tradition, Binghamton High School staff all gathered on November 20 to honor the 2024 recipient of the Patriot Scholarship: Maria Mustafa.
For the past 30 years, the Patriot Scholarship has been awarded each year by an anonymous donor to a Binghamton High School senior who is in the top 100 students in their class, demonstrates good attendance, and has made positive contributions to their school. Students who receive the scholarship are awarded $5,000 for the first year of college, and $2,500 annually for the next three years.
Maria is an ultra-involved member of the BHS student body and is a key figure in school clubs/organizations too numerous to count, including student government, Sisterz 4 Sisters, and more. In September, Maria was also named one of 62 students across New York State to be named to the New York State Governor's Youth Council.
