A Taste of Broadway

Choral students at Binghamton High School are getting ready for a special night of cabaret and desserts! One of those students is freshman Jesi Cureton, who is hard at work preparing her solo for A Taste of Broadway, which takes place Wednesday, May 29 at 7 p.m. in the BHS Cafeteria.

A Taste of BroadwayJesi will be performing “Tale As Old As Time” from Beauty and the Beast at A Taste of Broadway. She only found out about the event a few months ago, and is making sure she’s getting in all the practice she can both in and out of school.

“In the class I practice with Ms. Easley and sometimes I practice at home with my friends or when I’m home I listen to the song over and over again,” Jesi said.

A Taste of Broadway has become an annual tradition that provides a different environment for both the students performing pieces as well and the community members who attend. Rather than the standard concert setup in the Helen Foley Theatre, those in attendance get the feel of watching a more casual, cabaret-style performance while enjoying sweet treats prepared by the Binghamton High School Culinary Arts class. For the performers, A Taste of Broadway offers the chance to truly perform music they want to perform.

Wren Bigelow“I think it’s an opportunity to really show off what you can do,” says BHS junior Wren Bigelow, who will be singing “If I Can’t Love Her” from Beauty and the Beast and “In A Crowd Of Thousands” from Anastasia during A Taste of Broadway. “We do have the advanced choirs, like concert choir and Davidge, but for Taste of Broadway you can pick the type of song you want to do…. Instead of having the music already picked out for you.”

Tickets for A Taste of Broadway are still available, and can be purchased here for six dollars. Tickets purchased ahead of the event include entertainment and desserts. Performance-only tickets may be bought at the door starting at 6 p.m. on May 29. For more information, call 607-762-8230.
