A West Middle School student got to see her written work be portrayed on the big stage during the Tri-Cities Opera’s “Pocket Opera Project” on May 14.
In the 2022-2023 school year, West Middle School student Cecilia Walsh , who is now in eighth grade, was named one of the winners of the 2023 WSKG Student Writing Challenge. Cecilia’s work titled Blank was selected as the winner in the sixth through eighth grade poetry category.
Cecilia’s poem, along with other submissions to the writing contest, were used in the Tri Cities Opera’s Pocket Opera Project. Local musicians transformed these works of writing into mini-operas that integrate music and theatrical elements to tell stories.
Alongside being an amazing writer, Walsh is also an aspiring cellist in orchestra!
