The Binghamton City School District’s Parents and Teachers Together (PACT) program has been recognized as one of the top affiliates by its parent organization. Parents as Teachers National Center, Inc. designated PACT as a Blue Ribbon Affiliate for its work with families expecting a child and those with young children.
“Learning begins before children are born and their parents are their first teachers,” said PACT Program Manager Mary Ellen Lollie. “Our program makes sure they have the tools and resources they need to be successful. We’re honored to be recognized for this work with families in the Binghamton City School District.”
The PACT program is a voluntary parent education program offered through Binghamton City School District, serving families who are expecting a child or have children through kindergarten completion. Trained parent educators provide personal visits with families to promote early learning, knowledge, and understanding of important developmental milestones. Periodic screenings increase parents’ understanding of their children’s developmental progress, as well as inform them of any possible delays. Early intervention for identified concerns helps improve school readiness for young children.
“Everyone should try the PACT program, it’s absolutely amazing,” said PACT parent Joni Kemberling. “Nothing gives you information like the PACT program gives you; I wouldn’t have the tools that I have for my kids without them.”
The Blue Ribbon Affiliate designation affirms that Binghamton PACT is among the top-performing programs within Parents as Teachers’ international network. To earn the Blue Ribbon endorsement, Binghamton PACT underwent a rigorous self-study and review process that affirmed that families in Binghamton are positively impacted by PACT and that it is being implemented as designed.
