East Middle School Family and Consumer Science teacher Kelly Earley has been appointed as the president-elect of the New York State Association of Family and Consumer Science Educators. Earley has been with the Binghamton City School District for four years and has been teaching for eight years. She has been a member of the NYAFCSE since 2013, and most recently she has served as the public relations officer for the organization.
“I’m excited and nervous,” Earley said. “I feel like I have huge shoes to fill. I’m very excited to bring a younger perspective to our profession and I’m looking forward to advocating for FACS teachers and building our profession.”
The term for the president-elect is one year, followed by the presidency which is a two-year position. Earley said as the president-elect she will be the head advocate and representative for NYSAFCSE and will be assisting the president with their responsibilities while learning the ropes.
"I will be responsible for the business of the Association and adhering to our mission," she said. "I will be representing our Association at meetings and delegate to the CTE and NYSACTE and NYSCEA councils. Along with all of that, I shall communicate with all members and work closely with sub-committees to meet my presidential yearly goals."
