Dear Binghamton City School District Retirees:

We understand how important your retiree medical benefits are to you. That’s why we want to provide you with important information about a change in how we are providing eligible post 65 (Medicare eligible) retiree medical coverage.

We are pleased to announce that beginning April 1, 2020 you will be covered by United Health Care Medicare insurance program that will provide you with the same rich benefits you currently enjoy at a lower cost to you. In addition, this coverage contains certain enhancements to your existing coverage, such as Silver Sneakers.

An informational meeting is scheduled on January 21st from 9-11 a.m. at the Holiday Inn Hotel and Conference Center, 2-8 Hawley St. Binghamton, New York, to provide you a detailed explanation of these benefits that will be administered through United Health Care. If you are unable to attend this presentation, a link of the video recording of the meeting will be posted on our website on January 22nd. Informational literature disseminated and discussed at the meeting will also be posted.

Our goal is to make this process as easy for you as possible. After the presentation, additional informational meetings will be scheduled. If you would like to attend one of these meetings, please contact Cynthia O’Shea, Benefits Assistant via email at or at 607-762-8100 x 316. We assure you that you will have the opportunity to ask and have all of your questions answered either at these meetings or by contacting the Personnel Office.

It is our privilege to continue providing outstanding health insurance coverage at an affordable cost to our retirees.

Executive Director of Human Resources and Operations
