Four Expectant Mothers Among Roosevelt Faculty

There's a baby boom happening over at Roosevelt Elementary! Four members of the school’s faculty will welcome new babies in the coming months.

It’s baby number three for Colleen Perry, who teaches K-5 reading. She’s due on October 10 with a baby boy to be named Colton.

Jesslynn Shafer, Roosevelt’s Library Media Specialist, is due on October 30 with a little girl named Evelyn.

Kristy Sloma and Kim Vanslyke are both first grade teachers and first-time moms. Sloma will welcome a yet-to-be-named baby girl around November 26. Vanslyke is due with a baby boy named Jameson on February 11.

Sloma spoke about what it’s been like to share this experience with Vanslyke, who she works closely with as members of the same teaching team.

“We’ve been comparing stories and symptoms and asking each other questions. It’s really nice to be able to have that support,” Sloma said. “And as first-time moms, we’re learning from the two more experienced moms.”

Their students and colleagues at Roosevelt are nearly as excited as the moms-to-be.

“The students in the building have had so many questions! They always run up and touch my belly,” Sloma said. “They want to know whether it’s a boy or a girl. Everybody’s just really excited for all the babies that are coming.”

Congratulations and best wishes to the new parents!
